Configuring Age Of Empires 2: Forgotten Empires on PlayOnLinux Ubuntu 16.04

We're gonna need the official Installers for Age of empires: Age of kings and The Conquerors.

1. Install PlayOnLinux (POL)
2. Run POL's Age of Kings script (Here you'll need Age of Kings Installer)
3. Run POL's The Conquerors script (Here you'll need The Conquerors Installer)
4. Run POL's Forgotten Empires script (This will download and install automatically this installer: https://forgottenempires.net/AoFE_Launcher.exe)
5. If sound does not work, change wine version to a newer one

It works!, but it has some annoying bugs with resolution and fullscreen, so the solution I got was to make it windowed, almost borderless and filled the screen with it. So let's do it.

1. Run FixAoFE.exe in the Forgotten virtual drive
1. Open POL and select Forgotten
2. Click Configure
3. Tab Miscellaneous
4. Click "Run a .exe ..."
5. Locate FixAoFE.exe in ~/PlayOnLinux's virtual drives/AOE2_forg/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires II/age2_x1/FixAoFE.exe
2. Enable Windowed mode
   
3. Open Configure Wine
   
4. Open Graphics tab, and make exactly this selections:
   
5. open the game and choose your desired resolution in options. This resolution will only affect in-game, it won't affect the menu.

It still has some bugs, but it's now playable, the inner game is mostly free of bugs, and with the new 60 FPS feature of the Forgotten Empires, is a net improvement.

There are two bugs that still bother me.

1. For some really strange reason, enemies' Castles do not start firing until you get really close to them, or maybe attack them. I've seen this happen in the first chapter of barbarossa campaign.
2. Multiplayer does not work. Right now, if you try to create a multiplayer game it will go back to the menu immediately. We can overcome this bug by installing directplay:
   It now Creates a multiplayer game
   
   But still, I haven't been able to join a multiplayer game between two computers using the same setup, I've tried with LAN, with IP, disabling firewalls, but no luck :(

How to ignore monitoring a disk from the smartd daemon

 -d ignore  is a new directive which allows ignoring a device from DEVICESCAN.

If we want to ignore the disk  /dev/sdb , edit  /etc/smartd.conf  and add  /dev/sdb -d ignore  before the line that starts with  DEVICESCAN 

It should look something like this:

I needed to stop the warning email messages from the smartd daemon, yeah I know my disk is failing so just shut up.

Also found out about the ineresting  -M diminishing  directive

diminishing - send additional warning reminder emails, after a one-day interval, then a two-day interval, then a four-day interval, and so on for each type of disk problem detected. Each interval is twice as long as the previous interval.

Problemas con el Menú en RUPDAE (Menú incompleto)

Algunos tenemos problemas para llenar los datos en RUPDAE debido a que el menú está incompleto tal como se muestra en la imagen.

Solucion:

Use los links de acá abajo para acceder al resto del menú. Pero primero tiene q iniciar sesion en RUPDAE.

Ahora el USB es mas inseguro que nunca (siempre lo fue)

Y no estamos hablando de los malwares que nos daban dolores de cabeza en la era de XP, esta nueva vulnerabilidad ataca directamente al firmware de un dispositivo USB y permite cambiar la forma en que se comunica con la PC, permitiendo por ejemplo a un Pen-Drive hacerse pasar por un Teclado y ejecutar comandos como si fuera el mismisimo usuario. Y esto no se limita a un teclado, de hecho se puede hacer pasar por cualquier cosa q se conecte por USB (Mouse, Modem, Impresora, Smartphone, etc.).

Cualquier informacion que fluya hacia dentro o fuera del USB tiene q pasar por las manos del Firmware (donde se alojaría este nuevo tipo de Malware) infectando cada archivo que pase por sus manos, por ejemplo en dispositivos críticos como un Pen-drive o un Modem.

Ya publicaron la vulnerabilidad y ahora cualquiera puede reproducirla, por lo que es cuestión de tiempo para q se empiece a viralizar y se empiecen a infectar los dispositvos USBs, sin que ni siquiera nos demos cuenta de ello.

Esto es muy serio, y lo peor de todo es que como usuarios no podemos hacer absolutamente nada, ya que todo está en manos de los fabricantes de USBs para que la nueva generacion de USBs vengan inmunes, oséa, esta generacion de USBs ESTÁ JODIDA (al menos eso parece, pero ojala que no), lo único q podemos hacer por ahora es evitar conectar dispositivos de procedencia dudosa a nuestros puertos USB.

Es la hora de ponerse paranoícos con el USB señores.

¿A quien creerle?

Tengo q aclarar que soy un poco parcial en estos temas.
Soy muy escéptico hacia las teorias conspirativas y aquellas (pseudo)ciencias que se quieren hacer pasar por una, para así imponer sus verdades. Principalmente porque van en contra de mi modelo mental de cómo funcionan las cosas y adjudico sus existencias a lo q muchos llaman Miedo al cambio, al Status quo, o simplemente se aprovechan de la falta de bases lógicas q la ciencia actual es capaz de ofrecer para explicar el suceso de ciertos fenómenos, especialmente en el área de la medicina, en donde estas pseudociencias se hacen de la vista gorda hacia las evidencias estadisticas, o sino, en sus experimentos omiten aplicar el método de doble ciego y se aprovechan del efecto placebo para respaldar sus hipotesis.

En el segundo artículo, al final dan unas series de recomendaciones, siendo la última de estas:

5. Acudir a un médico especializado para que nos realice una descarga de la radiación que el cuerpo haya podido absorber.

Serán mis prejuicios hablando, pero para mi allí quedó claro cuales eran las intenciones de ese artículo. lo mas probable es que sea un artículo promovido por algunas de esas pseudociencias haciendo promesas para sanar lo que no se puede sanar, o sanar lo que nunca existió (ésta última es la mas efectiva).

Ademas, ¿Descargar la radiacíon?,¿En serio?. ¿Y ante tantas dudas cientificas un médico se atreve a decir que es capaz de "Descargar la radiación"?.

P.D: La luz es tambien una onda electromagnética, por si acaso alguien pretende tambien hecharle la culpa a todo el espectro electromagnético
